Magnolia House

Toronto, ON

| 2017

Heritage preservation is the first sustainable feature of this house. Located in a historically protected district, this century home has been pushed forward another century or two through a complete retrofit of its original systems: mechanical, electrical, wall assemblies and window, while preserving the three original exterior brick façades facing the street. The south-facing rear façade opens up to the stunning magnolia tree, which provides an explosion of colour in the spring, passive solar shading through the summer, and when its leaves fall, it welcomes heat gain in the winter.
