Forest Hill House

We had an exciting opportunity to renovate and expand this century home by reflecting the qualities and materials historic to Toronto homes, while integrating a contemporary addition and the best of modern sustainable building practices. Through the restoration of the existing façade, increased insulation values and triple-glazed windows artfully embellished with historical leading, the old was brought up to date with the new. Meanwhile, at the rear of the building, a previous addition from the 1980s was removed, allowing the installation of beautiful, floor-to-ceiling, high-performance windows, large overhangs, and green roofs – a reflection of the client’s desired west coast aesthetic. From material selection to layout and landscaping, this home plays with the old and new design languages and pays homage to both the neighbourhood’s and client’s personal history.
