As city development continues to evolve, staying up to date with regulations, innovative solutions, and best practices is essential. At Dewson Architects our team is committed to continuous learning, collaboration, and proactively adoption of  upcoming changes. For instance, this week CivilGo Engineering was invited to speak to our team on the latest updates in stormwater management.

Our goal was to better evaluate how municipal regulations can impact approvals of single residential and multi-residential developments—such as four-plex projects—and the best strategies for retaining storm events. We also explored emerging technologies in stormwater management, a growing consideration with the continuous growth of urbanization in our cities.

Why it matters?

Every municipality has unique stormwater regulations, and evolving guidelines that shape how we approach runoff control, volume management, and low-impact development (LID). By integrating new technologies, analyzing recent case studies, and site-specific strategies, we can identify potential challenges while proactively looking for effective solutions. Additionally, we engage with industry experts to foster collaboration, ensuring we provide the best solutions for our clients and the longevity of a building.

How do we stay ahead?

  1. Continuous learning: Partake in information sessions and ongoing dialogue within our team and industry as we develop best practices.
  2. Tracking evolving regulations, such as Wet Weather Flow Management Guidelines , site plan approvals, and municipal stormwater policies.
  3. Adapting innovative solutions: Consider materials, such as permeable pavers, infiltration galleries, stormwater harvesting, and green infrastructure, to optimize site performance where required.
  4. Proactive problem-solving: From integrating superpipes & retention tanks to natural infiltration systems that align with environmental needs.

What’s next?

With stormwater guidelines continuously evolving, we are preparing for potential regulatory shifts, ensuring that our projects are future-proof, sustainable, and aligned with the latest standards.
