After designing their rural family retreat, our clients returned with a new challenge: to bring the same sense of comfort, sustainability, and connection to nature into the heart of Toronto. Replacing an aging 1960s house, the new all-electric home translates the high-performance principles of their lakeside retreat into an urban setting, achieving Passive House-level airtightness while responding to the realities of family life in the city. Thoughtfully framed views, generous natural light, and a sculptural curved staircase create moments of warmth and delight throughout the home, while its high-performance enclosure and all-electric systems provide lasting comfort and Net Zero readiness. Designed for a young family of five, the residence balances durable, low-maintenance materials with adaptable spaces built to evolve over time. The result is a home that demonstrates building science and timeless design are not mutually exclusive: a quiet luxury that is as sustainable as it is enduring.
